If you have inherited coins or have a collection with little knowledge of its value, perhaps it is time for an appraisal. Numismatic appraisals are legal, enforceable valuations of money/tokens/exonumia when performed by a qualified appraiser. A “qualified appraiser” has been educated in and understands valuation theory, is skilled in valuing the subject of a specific appraisal, is knowledgeable in the variety of factors that influence valuation, and is capable of synthesizing all pertinent data into a format that can easily be understood

An appraiser adheres strictly to a Code of Ethics.

Be sure to select an appraiser who is a member of a recognized numismatic organization.

American Numismatic Association #120878.

The Ye Old Coin Shop offers free verbal opinions for a few items at no cost. Evaluations are a non-binding estimate of total value. if you have an Excel spreadsheet or itemized inventory of your coins, YOCS will gladly look it over and make suggestions as to choices for dispersal.

We are professional numismatists affiliated with the A.N.A. and G.N.A. The Ye Old Coin Shop is an authorized dealer for P.C.G.S., N.G.C. and C.A.C.

Whatever your need, we will be happy to help.

If your intention is to sell, we offer a cursory oral evaluation at no charge to you. While a large collection requires that you leave it with us, smaller collections can be evaluated while you wait.. An appointment is always necessary.

Should you have something that the Ye Old Coin Shop needs or wants, we may make you a limited- time offer for some or part of your collection. You are under no obligation to sell nor are we obligated to buy.

Should you live away, you may mail your collection to us. Return shipping cost is the responsibility of the client.

The cost of a limited, written appraisal solely for personal use is $30 per hour. The cost for a written, professional appraisal suitable for insurance, probate and other legal matters is $50 per hour. If the collection is extensive and/or complex, we generally give an estimate of the amount of time needed for completion. If asked, we may give a customer our best estimate of the amount of time expected based on the amount of research needed.

A professional appraisal will be prepared with as much documentation as the purpose may require. The cost for a large collection can be substantial, again based on hours needed for research of current values. Time spent for an appraisal largely depends on:

  • Coin or paper money type
  • Rarity
  • Condition
  • Mint

Professional appraisal fee:

$30 per hour if for limited use
(minimum charge – $90)

$50 per hour for detailed documentation
often required for legal or probate purposes.(Minimum charge – $150).

Call before shipping. Packages should be securely boxed as well as insured and sent by registered mail. Though not required, it is recommended that clients provide an inventory, or at least a good photograph, of the collection. This prevents any future misunderstanding.

Because coins can be extremely heavy, we occasionally travel for “in-home” appointments. We can also meet at our bank in Blairsville, Georgia, or possibly at your banking institution.

If personally delivering collections to YOCS, prior appointments are always required.

We are happy to assist you.
